Report: The State of Out-of-School Girls in Sierra Leone

Purposeful is an organisation deeply committed to centering girls and young women in their work. Their report – The State of Out-of-School Girls in Sierra Leone – is the culmination of an extensive survey across the country.

The Report shows how girls’ lives in Sierra Leone are characterised by multiple hardships. The scale and everyday nature is shocking. Yet when girls are able to imagine and access new options, they can take action, changing their own lives.

The design of the Report needed to reflect the vibrant and hopeful nature of this important research, and to make complex data easy and engaging to read.

We used playful, colourful design features to break up the material and make the Report a less daunting read, while retaining the serious nature of the insights portrayed.

A great deal of support material was needed for the launch in Freetown on the International Day of the Girl in October.

We designed not just the Report itself, but also invites, factsheets, exhibition booths, floor panels, event backdrops and display panels. All this had to be designed, prepared and produced in record time.

The event lit up the Townhall and had a brilliant reception.
